I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avengers fatigue here pretty soon.
Not that I don’t love the movies.
It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!
We can see the market drives us to a sort of science fiction now that’s either completely escapist and doesn’t require a technical consultant — an example of that would be Guardians of the Galaxy
It’s just fun. We don’t care how those spaceships work or any of that stuff works. And then you have scientifically responsible science fiction like The Martian or Interstellar.
Science Fiction is kind of a commercial genre. It’s not really an elevated dramatic genre. In fact it’s a genre as opposed to humanistic storytelling.
But I would argue until I am blue in the face that science fiction is the quintessence of being human in a sense.
We are technological beings. We are the only truly conscious species that we know of. We are struggling with ourselves over the issue of our own quest for understanding , our own ability to manipulate the fabric of reality , our own technologies blowing back on us and changing the way we behave amongst ourselves and as a civilization. We are living a science fiction reality.
So I would say there is nothing more quintessentially human than dealing with these themes, but I agree Hollywood tends to pull short from that. They will reward science fiction films for their accomplishment visually, but they are definitely a kind of red-headed stepchild when it comes to the acting , producing , directing categories.
The irony is we now live in a science fiction world. We live in a world that would have been very, very hard to predict even twenty or thirty years ago, and we are co-evolving with our own technology.
So we are sort of on the cutting edge of a big experiment and consciousness and engineering and technology , and science fiction is kind of our headlights. It helps us see what’s down the road.

Que me quiera comparar a The Martian con Interstellar (historia grandilocuente que sólo usa la Teoría de Cuerdas como una mera excusa argumental para decorar su melodrama barato) ya me dice bastante de su pobre comprensión de la ciencia ficción.
¿Y este es el mismo tipo que hizo Terminator y la secuela de Alien? De veras que cuesta trabajo encontrar gente a la que admirar que eventualmente no termine decepcionándolo a uno. Bueno, aún me quedan Steven Spielberg y Guillermo del Toro, esos sí que son amos de la ficción.

Pues yo mas bien veo a alguien cuya libertad creativa absoluta dependía de Fox y que ahora tal vez tendrá que negociar cn Disney. Y no me extrañaría que le ofrecieran como contrapartida a alguno de sus proyectos megalomaniacos la direccion de alguna propuesta del estudio. Y claro, ahí no le queda mas remedio que marcar territorio. Y dejad ya de meteros con alguien a quien siguen imitando hoy todas las peliculas de accion, marvel incluida, y no olvideis que sus "pitufos azules" siguen siendo la pelicula mas taquillera hasta la fecha, y que por mucha rabia que os de, sigue teniendo algunas escenas de accion absolutamente cojonuda, comó una de las pocas batallas verticales que se han atrevido a hacer en una pelicula. ¿Interestellar? ¡BWAH HA HA HA! ¿La del astronauta que manda mensajes a través de la biblioteca de su hija? Sí, claro. Tiene muchísima lógica. Ciencia Ficción bien aplicada, no como los árboles que hablan.
Cuando van a entender que Nolan no hace películas inteligentes: hace películas que te parecen inteligentes cuando lo único que ves son películas de Fast & Furious o las de transformers.
Pero, ¿para qué me esfuerzo en decirlo en un mundo donde Zack Snyder es considerado un "visionario"?

Bueno, después de leerlo atentamente he pensado: ¡¡¡QUE ALGUIEN LE DE UNA PELI DE IRON MAN A ESTE HOMBRE!!!
Taikun, Guillermo del toro NO es tan bueno (otra cosa es que me caiga de puta madre, el tío). Sus películas casi siempre se desinflan a la mitad y sus referencias culturales son un tema de conversación más interesante que su guión proppiamente dicho.
Por otro lado, coincido contigo en que Nolan no distingue "inteligente" de "aburrido".
