¡Y encima, escrita y dirigida por McFarlane, que quiere subirse al tren de las pelis de superhéroes para mayores de 18 años!
Así presenta su proyecto:

At the end of the movie, I’m hoping that the audience will say either, is this a ghost that turns into a man, or is it a man that turns into a ghost? I’ve got a trilogy in mind here, and I’m not inclined in this first movie to do an origin story. I’m mentally exhausted from origin stories."
"If you want to see something creepy and powerful where you go, just what the hell was that? I’m not going to explain how Spawn does what he does; he is just going to do it. We’ll eventually do some of the background if we make a trilogy, but that’s not this first movie. The first movie is just saying, do you believe? And if you believe than that’s good because I’m hoping to take you for a long ride with this franchise."
Foxx confiesa que su devoción por el personaje viene de antiguo:
"A few years back I flew out to Arizona to meet the man behind one of the most incredible comic book characters in the universe… Todd McFarlane. He was taken aback when I told him with the enthusiasm of a young child that more than anything I wanted to put my name in the hat to embody his beloved character Spawn…. I told him no one would work harder than me if given the opportunity… well… the opportunity is here!! I’m humbled and ready to transform… and to top things off the young Jason Blum is lending his brilliance to the project! Time to be great!!!! #Spawn."

¿Alguien puede explicarle a McFarlane que ser guionista no es dibujar páginas llamativas e inventarse luego la historia? No me lo invento, lo explicó él en una entrevista.
Y es pronto para decir que Venom será un fracaso. Al gran público le da igual que no salga Spiderman.

El tema con Venom es que si a la gente le da igual si sale Spidey, entonces le chupa un huevo saber quien es Venom y mucho menos le interesa ver su peli en solitario

La gente no funciona igual que el fan. Deadpool (que fue el VERDADERO primer portador del simbionte) empezó siendo un villano de X-Force y ya veis cómo se han invertido los papeles en la última película.
A nadie parece importarles que Hank y Janet no sean jóvenes y miembros fundadores de los Vengadores, que no exista Rick Jones, que Nick Fury no represente el lado oscuro del siglo veinte americano y que Donald Blake sea sólo una pegatina. Apenas he leído quejas sobre el tema. La cuestión es que sea una película divertida, más que una adaptación fiel.
Y dejando aparte la araña del pecho, en realidad todo eso de la "impronta genética" de Peter Parker en el simbionte es innecesario. Las telarañas serían zarcillos retráctiles, el simbionte puede pegarse a las paredes filtrándose un poquito. Hasta preferiría el origen Ultimate, mucho más urbano y siniestro.
